Schedule Time to Focus on Studying for Your Medical Office Administration Course

Balancing your family life with your MOA training may seem like a challenge at first. However, planning ahead and scheduling your family and academic activities can help you stay organized and make sure there’s time for everything.

Whether you use your cell phone, a day planner, or family calendar, take the time to note important due dates and the dates of exams well ahead of time. Then, on a weekly basis, schedule time for your studies, the times of your courses, your work schedule, and any family activities our outings you might have planned. Having everything laid out will make sure there are no surprises awaiting you, and that you have enough time set aside to focus on your studies, maintain your current job, and enjoy your family time.

Join a Study Group with Other Students from Your MOA Training

One of the best ways to learn new concepts and ideas is to learn in a group setting. Classmates in your medical office administration course are a valuable resource for studying. Try making plans to get together with other students for a study group. Even if it’s just for an hour after class one day a week, collaborating with other students can help improve your retention and comprehension of course material. During your study group sessions, try teaching each other the concepts that you’re learning in class. Teaching a concept is one of the best ways to remember it yourself!

Don’t be Afraid to Reach Out to Your Instructors

If you’re struggling with a particular concept while studying for an important test, don’t suffer in silence. Approach your instructors for extra advice or feedback. Your MOA instructors are there to help you learn, so if you need extra assistance grasping a concept, it’s best to reach out sooner rather than later. Your instructor may be able to provide you with extra examples or guidance so you can feel confident in your abilities. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions in class. Chances are that if you have a question about something, another classmate does too and will be happy you spoke up!

Determine Your Own Personal Learning Style

If you’re going back to college after spending an extended amount of time out of school, it’s understandable that you may feel nervous and unsure of what to expect. A great way to improve your study habits right from the get go is to do some exercises to determine your learning style. Do you learn best by writing down lessons? Or do diagrams and other visual aids help you study best? Whatever your learning style, you can adapt your habits so that you make the most of the time you spend studying.

As a working parent, it probably feels like there’s never enough time in the day, but knowing how you learn most effectively, whether it be by seeing examples, listening, or reading, will help you focus your efforts and study more efficiently.
