Program Details

The Dental Assisting Diploma at Medix College is a 60-week program that equips you with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills. Delivered in hybrid formats, you’ll engage in a blend of online learning and practical training. A standout feature of the program is the 150-hour externship, where you’ll work in a real-world dental setting, applying what you’ve learned.

What does the Dental Assisting Diploma Cover?

• Patient Education: Learn how to educate patients and their families about dental health, making sure they understand treatments and the importance of oral care.
• Chairside Support: Develop the skills needed to assist dentists during procedures, ensuring a smooth and efficient patient experience.
• Patient Preparation: Gain experience in preparing patients for exams and treatments, creating a welcoming and calm environment.
• Instrument Sterilization & Maintenance: Understand sterilization procedures and how to maintain dental tools to ensure patient safety.
• Supply Management: Learn how to order and manage dental supplies to keep the office running smoothly.
• Reception & Clerical Duties: Build skills in managing the front office, including answering phones, scheduling, and clerical tasks.
• Radiography: Get trained in taking and developing x-rays, a key part of assisting in diagnostics.
• Scheduling & Invoicing: Master appointment scheduling and invoicing, making you essential to the office’s daily operations.

Hands-On Learning: Your 4 Week Externship

All students must complete a 4-week externship/co-op placement at a dental clinic. This hands-on experience allows you to apply what you’ve learned in a real-world environment, gaining valuable experience. Many students secure employment through their externship, and for others, it provides a strong foundation for starting their careers.
