The Early Childhood Assistant Diploma is a comprehensive 50-week program designed to prepare you for a rewarding career in early childhood education. This program combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, ensuring you gain the skills needed to excel in day care centers or early learning facilities.
What does the Early Childhood Assistant Diploma Program Cover?
In Medix’s ECA program, you will collaborate with teachers to deliver effective Early Learning Programs. The curriculum includes:
- Creating a Safe and Nurturing Environment: Learn to design and implement developmentally appropriate curricula that support children’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.
- Collaborative Planning and Implementation: Work with teachers to plan and carry out daily activities that foster child development.
- Supporting Daily Routines: Assist children with washroom routines, dressing, and lunchtime activities.
- Documentation and Reporting: Complete anecdotal reports, observation checklists, and developmental checklists to track and support each child’s progress.
- Staff Collaboration: Attend staff meetings to discuss children’s progress, address any issues, and propose solutions based on your observations.
Hands-On Learning: Your 16-Week Externship
A key component of the program is the 16-week externship, offering hands-on experience in real childcare settings. During this externship, you will:
- Engage in activities such as creating seasonal arts and crafts and designing educational games that promote physical activity.
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals following the Canada Food Guide.
- Apply your classroom knowledge in practical settings, bridging the gap between theory and real-world practice.
This externship ensures you are fully prepared to make a positive impact in childcare settings and helps you build the confidence needed for a successful career.
