The Medical Lab Assistant / Technician Diploma program at Medix College offers a comprehensive 55-week curriculum available in both hybrid and in-class delivery formats. This program combines didactic teaching, delivered on a hybrid basis with virtual synchronous theory sessions and in-person labs and exams, to provide flexible learning options.
As part of the program, students gain essential hands-on experience through a 150-hour simulation structured clinical externship and a 150-hour offsite externship. This blend of practical training and in-class learning ensures graduates are fully equipped to navigate the complexities of medical laboratory work, preparing them for a successful career in the healthcare field.

Our Medical Lab Assistant/Technician diploma program has a 6-year EQualâ„¢ accreditation. This represents an important commitment to our students to develop and deliver education that aligns with national standards, through a six-stage certification process.
Medix College’s Medical Lab Assistant/Technician diploma program is approved by the Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO).
Our curriculum is designed using the latest MLPAO and CSMLS competency profiles, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to challenge both the national and provincial certification exams and ultimately excel in the field.
The MLPAO is the certifying body for Medical Laboratory Assistants/Technicians in Ontario. The association’s certification program validates that an individual has attained a recognized level of standards and training through MLPAO-approved educational institutions. Through its examination process, the association has granted MLA/T certification to over 25,000 individuals.
Certification by the MLPAO is regarded as the preferred qualification by many employers across Ontario.
