Program Details

The Pharmacy Assistant Diploma at Medix College is a 44 week program offered in both hybrid and in-class delivery formats. As part of the program requirements, students complete a 240-hour externship, providing hands-on experience in real-world settings. This combination of in-class and practical training ensures that you’re well-prepared to excel in the role of Pharmacy Assistant.  Imagine, in less than a year can earn your Pharmacy Assistant diploma and be ready to succeed in your new career.

What does the Pharmacy Assistant Diploma Program Cover?

Pharmacy Assistant students learn the history of pharmacy, legislation and health care systems, the role of the pharmacist, technician and assistant, federal and provincial legislation, understanding dispensary, medical and pharmaceutical terminology, prescription interpretation and the abbreviations, introduction to various dosage forms, the various therapeutic classifications of drugs. Other Pharmacy Assistant courses include Pharmacy Calculations, Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, and Pharmacy Compounding.

Professionalism and communication skills are also covered and include verbal and written communication skills, customer service, dealing with professional, peers and dispensary staff; problem solving techniques, handling complaints, and confidentiality.

Pharmacy Assistant Externship: Hands-On Learning

As part of the Pharmacy Assistant externship, students receive 240 hours of hands on training on operation and maintenance of a typical pharmacy software, entering prescriptions and printing labels, maintaining patient’s profile, drug search, doctor search, special instructions, third party billing and inventory management.  A well-equipped pharmacy lab provides you with real-world setting experience of dispensing medications and compounding pharmaceuticals.
